Last Sunday marked the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and forever changed America.

Since there are no students in elementary or middle school who actually have an active memory of 9/11, the way teachers approach this day has changed. Students do not remember a pre 9/11 world. They have no idea what it is like to go to an airport and see someone off at the boarding gate or go through airport security without taking off their shoes. Educators need to create a context for students putting September 11th into historical sense.
As ceremonies were held at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and the Shanksville, Pennsylvania crash site, students at Valle Catholic also took time to pause and pray. Classes watched videos and had discussions about the events of September 11, 2001.
