During Lent Valle Catholic students participated in a Lenten tradition:
Catholic Relief Services-Operation Rice Bowl
Valle Catholic PreKindergarten students participated in the Lenten Rice Bowl collection too. On Tuesday, April 7th, they walked to US Bank, accompanied by teachers Miss Colleen and Mrs. Klein.
US Bank employee, Elaine Tlapek, showed the children how the change machine counts the money.
She showed them how the machine worked, asked them questions, such as which coins were which, and had them guess how much money they collected in their Rice Bowls.
The PreK children raised a total of $86.94.
Operation Rice Bowl is a program that supports Catholic Relief Services’ projects throughout the world with 75% of the money funding food security projects overseas and Lenten education efforts in the United States. 25% remains in dioceses in the United States to support local hunger and poverty alleviation efforts. The PreK childrens’ collection will be added to the K-12 school (over $500.) and parish collection.
