On Wednesday, September 17 the entire Valle Catholic High School student body gathered in the school lobby to dedicate and bless the new statue of the Blessed Mother that now stands watch over the library. Campus Ministry students led all Warriors in prayer and Deacon John Meere offered a blessing for statues. Students prayed that “this statue will help us dedicate our lives and education to our most holy Mother.”
The statue that previously stood in the library, a gift from the Class of 1966, was damaged many years ago. Her head and both hands had been repaired several times through the years. Since it was damaged beyond repair, it was retired from use and reverently buried by Mrs. Jan Weiler’s Religion class.
The new image of the Blessed Mother is a great example of sacred art. It reflects the deep faith of the artist and is an example of artistic gifts giving us inspiration. The statue was purchased by family and friends of Herb (Class of ’64) and Paula (Okenfuss ’66) Klein and daughter Cara (Klein ’98) Bader . The original wooden pedestal was repainted and stabilized by family members.
