Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI)
As part of our commitment to ensuring the academic and spiritual growth of our students, we have developed an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan to be implemented in the event of unforeseen circumstances (snow/ice, water main break, etc.) requiring the closure of our physical campus. The plan is designed to provide a seamless continuation of quality education for our students. AMI Days allow students to engage in meaningful learning experiences from home while our physical campus is closed. These days reflect our dedication to academic excellence, faith-centered learning, and equitable opportunities for all students.
Communication During AMI Days - To ensure all families are informed about an AMI Day, the school will communicate through the following channels:
-
TeacherEase Email: Parents and students will receive an official notification.
-
Phone Call Recording: An automated phone call will deliver the announcement.
-
Social Media: Updates will be shared on our Facebook page.
The AMI Plan is designed to be flexible and inclusive. Use of technology and student devices are not required to complete AMI assignments. Hard copies of assignments/resources will serve as the primary instructional format. Students are receiving AMI assignments today at school and are bringing them home to be stored for possible future AMI days.
The amount of learning time is determined based on the developmental needs and academic levels of the students. For younger students, such as those in Kindergarten through Grade 2, learning activities are designed to accommodate their attention spans and developmental readiness. As students progress through Grades 3–8, the duration and complexity of assignments increase to reflect their growing capacity for independent work and deeper learning. High school students’ learning time aligns with their individual schedules and course requirements, ensuring that assignments are appropriately rigorous and reflective of their advanced academic levels.
Teacher Support: On AMI days, teachers are accessible via email from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to answer questions and provide support.
Assignments: AMI lessons and activities are designed to reinforce learning. Assignments will not include assessments, though material covered may appear in future classroom evaluations. Grading will follow the classroom grading system, with constructive feedback provided to support student understanding.
Faith formation remains a cornerstone of our educational mission as a Catholic school. Each AMI Day’s lessons will include daily prayer and religion-based assignments.
We recognize that school closures can be challenging for families, and our AMI Plan reflects our commitment to continuing the educational experience. Should you have any questions about the AMI Plan, please do not hesitate to contact your school’s principal or classroom teachers.
