On Friday, March 11, 2016, Valle Catholic School welcomed representatives from the Archdiocese of St. Louis’ Annual Catholic Appeal to the 8:00 Mass at Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church. The reason for the visit was twofold: to honor ACA Essay Winners and to present the school with a donation check.
The $125,000 check was accepted by essay winners: Celina Mueller, daughter of Dennis and Sherry Mueller, Josh Bader, son of Clay and Mary Kay Bader, and Sarah Bauman, daughter of Don and Kathy Bauman, all juniors at Valle Catholic High School.
Representing the Archdiocese were Mr. Dave Baranowski, Director of Stewardship Education and the Annual Catholic Appeal who shared the importance of the Annual Catholic Appeal and the good works the appeal supports throughout the Archdiocese.
Also pictured are main celebrant Most Reverend Edward M. Rice, V.G. and Father Dennis Schmidt, pastor of the Church of Ste. Genevieve. Dr. Mark Gilligan, principal of Valle Catholic handled the introductions. Also representing the Archdiocese was Thomas Heeger, ACA Council Member.
Bishop Rice reminded the gathering that the theme of this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal is a call to have “the courage to love.” He told the congregation that courage comes from the Latin word meaning to do something out of love – using your whole heart. When we imitate Jesus, we are acting out of love.
The Archdiocesan’s Annual Catholic Appeal strengthens the ability of the St. Louis area’s parishes, schools and agencies to build the Church into a community of courageous love.
