Valle Catholic (Mo.), with nation’s longest active football win streak,
on verge of 50 in a row
The nation’s longest active 11-man football winning streak can hit 50 games on Friday night.
Valle Catholic in Sainte Genevieve, Mo., has not lost a game since Nov. 23, 2012 to Penney (Hamilton, Mo.) and is 4-0 on the season. The Warriors play Grandview (Hillsboro, Mo.).
Valle has outscored its first four opponents this season 208-58 and has allowed an average of less than 10 points per game over the 49 consecutive victories.
What’s even more amazing, Valle is winning without the type of players who are heavily recruited and becoming college football stars.
“Throughout this streak, we’ve only had kid who’s gone on to play college football,” coach Judd Naeger told TEGNA partner KSDK in St. Louis. “Most games we’re not the biggest team. Most games we’re not the fastest team. It’s a willingness to give everything you can for the guy next to you.”
Valle is a school of 135 students and the football program has 45 players listed on the roster. But the school does have a full trophy case with 14 state titles overall, including the last three.
“We want everyone who ever played for Valle to be proud of how we play,” Naeger said.
And when the streak ends?
“At that point we’ll be able to look back and see what we did,” Naeger said, “and we’ll get to be just a normal football team.”
