*Happy Labor Day from Kindergarten

Valle Catholic Kindergarten learned that Labor Day is a holiday to celebrate people who work.

To gain more knowledge about this traditional “End of Summer” holiday, each child brought an item to school to represent something about the work that their parents do. Each child showed their item to their classmates and answered questions about mom and/or dad’s job.

Mrs. Amy Wood, Kdg teacher learned so much about what their students “THINK” their parents do while at work!

Labor Day celebrates American workers and how hard work has helped this country to do well and prosper. No one is quite sure who first came up with the idea of a Labor Day holiday in the United States. Some people say it was Peter J. McGuire, a cabinet maker, who proposed the day in May of 1882. Other people claim that Matthew Maguire from the Central Labor Union was the first to propose the holiday. Either way, the first Labor Day was held on September 5, 1882 in New York City. On June 28, 1894 Labor Day became an official national holiday.
