*Kindness Olympics Opening Ceremony & Events

In tandem with the 2018 Winter Olympics, Valle Catholic Grade School is hosting the “Kindness Olympics”. The purpose is to spread kindness by participation in friendly games throughout the two weeks. It’s a faithful and fun way to celebrate and enjoy the Winter Olympics.

In preparation for the “Kindness Olympics” each classroom chose a team name focused on Kindness with a symbol or icon that correlates with their team name displayed on their class flag. Students also made “Warm Fuzzies” (necklaces of Olympic-colored yarn) to promote and acknowledge kind actions around school.

Opening ceremonies were held on Friday, February 9th in the Valle gym. The National Anthem was sung by 5th Grader, Bri Abt with a prayer led by 8th Grader, Reese Metzger. Mr. Verges (Valle band director) and 7th Grader, Braden Coleman provided the Olympic Fanfare. Students carried their class banners in the “Parade of Teams.” The Olympic Flame Torch Relay was held around the perimeter of the gym, and the cauldron was lit by 8th Grader, Aiden Heberlie. The flame will remain lit throughout the duration of the Olympics.

Events so far have included: curling, winter weather wear relay, mogul skiing, figure skating, and biathlon.
