Valle Catholic Grade School celebrated the completion of their Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge with an assembly on Monday, September 28th. PreK-Grade 8 students joined in on the fun.
The challenge ran from May 4 – September 4, 2015. Valle finished #320 out of thousands of schools across the United States. Valle had 95 students participate in the challenge for a total of 154,369 minutes read in their first year of participation in the challenge. The school will be looking to increase that total in future years.
The assembly opened with a prayer led by 8th Grader, Macy Shuh. Mrs. Metzger announced the winners.
The top reader at Valle was Reann Nickelson who received a $25 gift card of her choice. Ellie Gatzemeyer and Eva Oberle came in second and third respectively, and both received $10 gift cards to Sweet Things Candy Shop.
Mrs. Carla Basler and Mrs. Kyla Palmer, 7th Grade teachers, each received $25 gift cards of their choice, as the teachers with the overall most class participation.
The middle school Student Council representatives led the entire school in the “Read, and Nae, Nae” dance, as well as a fun book relay that included students across all grade levels.
The assembly ended with the drawing for the two $50 iTunes gift cards, two $50 Scrip gift cards and two Kindle Fire hd 7s. The winners’ names were drawn by Mrs. Metzger’s prek helper, Jayce Bieser.
The winners of the iTunes cards were Lane Okenfuss and Kaden Gegg. Colton Kuehn and Collin Grass nabbed the gift cards of their choice from Scrip, and Charlie McGuire and Gage Heil were the recipients of the Valle blue Kindle Fires.
